The Amazing Death Cat

This story is one of those that makes you second-guess everything you think you know about animals. His name is Oscar and he's a two-year old cat that lives at a nursing home in Providence, Rhode Island. Oscar makes his daily rounds of all the rooms like a regular human nurse, but has the uncanny ability of knowing who is hours away from death.

Oscar is better at predicting death than the people who work there, said Dr. Joan Teno of Brown University, who treats patients at the nursing home and is an expert on care for the terminally ill.

She was convinced of Oscar's talent when he made his 13th correct call. While observing one patient, Teno said she noticed the woman was not eating, was breathing with difficulty and that her legs had a bluish tinge, signs that often mean death is near.

Oscar would not stay inside the room though, so Teno thought his streak was broken. Instead, it turned out the doctor's prediction was roughly 10 hours too early. Sure enough, during the patient's final two hours, nurses told Teno that Oscar joined the woman at her bedside.

Before you wonder if patients are panicing when they see Oscar in his room, fear not. Few, if any of the people that have died at the home are in a condition to know that he's even there.

Still, one weird story.
