William Jefferson, (D) LA, Defeated!

The man who had $90,000 in his freezer and made rescue workers save stuff from his house before they helped Hurricane Katrina victims has been defeated in his quest for a 10th term in Congress. There is some justice in the world.

What's more, the winner is quite a story. His name is Anh Joseph Cao, a little-known 41-year-old community organizer and GOP attorney. That's right, a community organizer and a Republican. He is also Vietnamese, having escaped the fall of Saigon as a young boy. So here we have a Republican who is an immigrant that understands tyranny first-hand and he's a community organizer. I don't know much else about him, but seems like he just might have the resume to become a superstar in the party if he plays his cards right.

Granted there was a very low turnout in this election that was delayed by Hurricane Gustav, but it also shows the slight demographic shift in Louisiana since Katrina. There seems to be a silent majority in the state that has said enough is enough. Let's hope the likes of Bobby Jindal and Anh Cao have what it takes to bring Louisiana true hope and change.
