Bad Health Care Or Just A Bad Idea?

I don't care what side you come down on over Obamacare...when you see this picture, you will immediately put your face in your palm and sigh. Amazingly, these women got up this morning, got dressed, looked in the mirror and said, "Yes, this is a good idea. I know what I'm doing!"

Some Roman Polanski Thoughts

You have to wonder if right now, somewhere in the plush offices of a major Hollywood studio, there's a low-level PR guy running through the halls shouting at the top of his lungs, "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, EVERYONE JUST, STOP, TALKING!!"

Happy National Lunatic Day!

The great Ed Morrissey at Hot Air looks at lunacy coming from the Left and the Right today in the online pages of Newsmax and the London Times courtesy John Perry and Gore Vidal who both warn of a coming military dictatorship in the United States. Perry is more welcoming to the fact, while Vidal is less enthusiastic, but they find common ground in blaming Barack Obama. Geesh! I hate it when so-called "intellects" actually put me on the side of The Messiah.

Ed ends the debate thusly:

The alternative, non-violent solution is the one we’ve been using for 220 years: elections. We have another coming in 2010. If the American people get fed up with the direction of this government, then we will change it in the midterms. We do not need our military to rescue us from ourselves, thank you very much.
You're welcome.

Hitler's Skull Competes For Attention With Hitler's Ball

Adolph Hitler said he would lead a thousand-year Reich. Well, didn't happen, but he very well might lead the thousand-year conspiracy.

There's been recently speculation over whether the Nazi dictator lost one testicle in WWI which led to his madness. Before that there has always been speculation that his might have actually escaped the bunker in the final Berlin Blitz. As it was the Russians that got there first, it's safe to say that accurate information on those final days is at a premium.

Well, now we have word that the skull fragment with the bullet hole that has been in Russian archives since the end of WWII has now been proven to be that of a woman. So, either Hitler got away, or alternate theory, he was really a woman and that drove his madness.
HARTFORD, Conn. – A piece of skull with a bullet hole through it that Russian officials claimed belonged to Adolf Hitler actually came from a woman, scientists at the University of Connecticut concluded.

The cranium fragment is part of a collection of Hitler artifacts preserved by Soviet intelligence in the months after Hitler and Eva Braun reportedly committed suicide in a Berlin bunker in April 1945.

The collection, now housed in the Russian State Archive in Moscow, also includes bloodstained pieces of the sofa where Hitler reportedly shot himself after taking a cyanide pill. The artifacts were put on public display in 2000.

The cold-water that people seem to forget to splash on their face is that Hitler was near death in late April of 1945 anyway. Even if he got away, he couldn't have lived more than a few months at best. However, I wouldn't be blogging about it if I didn't find it interesting. It would be nice to know for absolute certainty how he met his end. Unfortunately, it was not at the hands of justice.

Monday Night Fun

Hat tip: Ace of Spades. Do you have a taste for grunge rock and the ukelele? Well bright eyes, your dream has just come true:

Quote Of The Day

I'm really liking San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary. There are other coaches out there that know more about offense, defense and so on, but Singletary is a leader of men. After a last-minute heartbreaker to the Minnesota Vikings, he said this:

"I'd rather we lose now, taste it, chew on it, swallow it, and get better," he said. "I want them to remember what it feels like, learn from it and go from there.

Nothing I heard over the weekend stuck with me like this statement. No, it's not elegant poetry, but it's great advice and speaks volume as to what kind of man he is and just how much he has to teach.

Celebrities Raise Money For Agassi School

I had the privileged of attending the annual benefit concert for the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy last night at the Wynn Las Vegas. More importantly, I was able to interview many celebrities performing at the benefit including Dane Cook, Daughtry, Frank Caliendo, Tony Hawk (who showed me his banged-up shins), Elaine Wynn, and (hubba hubba) Marie Osmond. Everyone was as nice as could be, especially the star of the show, Andre Agassi himself, who doesn't have a pretentious bone in his body. A proud Las Vegas who, unlike many former athletes, has found true greatness in his post-athletic career.

It's Official: No More Making Fun Of The French

For they have elected a president with a firm grasp of reality. I don't agree with Nicholas Sarkozy on everything, but on the stuff that really, really matters, he is golden.

From the National Post, via Breitbart:

“President Obama dreams of a world without weapons … but right in front of us two countries are doing the exact opposite.

“Iran since 2005 has flouted five security council resolutions. North Korea has been defying council resolutions since 1993.

“I support the extended hand of the Americans, but what good has proposals for dialogue brought the international community? More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe a UN member state off the map,” he continued, referring to Israel.

The sharp-tongued French leader even implied that Mr Obama’s resolution 1887 had used up valuable diplomatic energy.

“If we have courage to impose sanctions together it will lend viability to our commitment to reduce our own weapons and to making a world without nuke weapons,” he said.

Mr Sarkozy has previously called the US president’s disarmament crusade “naive.”

“We live in the real world, not the virtual world. And the real world expects us to take decisions.”

Strange Days

Economic doldrums lead to an unhappy populous. I've seen recessions before, but not like this. People are angry, upset, frustrated. They may not even realize it. The things that one might usually shrug off are leading to depression. Customer service is lacking. Things broken stay broken. Movies are about nothing but fear, loathing, anger.

It takes its toll on a person, especially when he's trying to make the best of a bad situation. "Ride it out," they say. "Jump!" others say.

What next? What now? How does it stop? How does it start? Who are the prisoners and who the warders?

Quote Of The Day

Gotta give Bill Clinton credit. This apparently was his take on Maureen Dowd of the New York Times:

"She must live in mortal fear that there's somebody in the world
living a healthy and productive life."

Afghanistan On The Brink

General Stanley McChrystal, the top military commander in Afghanistan is threatening to resign if he doesn't get the troops he says he needs to finish the job. Naturally, the Obama White House responded with the disrespect  we all expected.

We might just end up losing Afghanistan folks.

The Medium Is Indeed The Message

I've been studying the works of Marshall McLuhan for years, but leave it to Rush Limbaugh to explain the famous phrase "The Medium is the Message" better than any college professor ever could:

Let me try to be a little bit more clear or specific in my analysis here of the medium is the message and I think how people are making a mistake by judging Obama by virtue of policy and what he says because he doesn't really have one, it's a broken record, there is no Obama plan for health care, and that's the point.  This media blitz is not just all five Sunday shows, Letterman tonight and all the stuff that happened today and all last week and ad infinitum. The message is that Obama Obamacare is good.  He's not trying to convince anybody with his actual policy.  There isn't any Obama policy.  Marshall McLuhan's point was "that media itself, not the content it carries, should be the focus of study. He said that a medium affects the society in which it plays a role not only by the content delivered over the medium, but also by the characteristics of the medium itself."

So Obama, whenever he's on TV, it's good, Obama good, Big Brother, Orwellian good, Obama good, talking health care, good.  The specifics, "Ah, they're not really all that big a deal," doesn't change 'em does he?  He's not responding to any criticism per se, and when he does respond to it he just lies.  "You are going to be able to keep your doctor, you are going to be able to keep your insurance."  No, you're not.  No point in doing government-run health care if that's the plan.  Let people keep their doctors and so forth.  Look at this, 42% -- this is Rasmussen -- 42% of the uninsured don't want Obama's plan.  But he doesn't have a plan!  And I'm not splitting hairs here.  "Among the uninsured, 58% favor Obama's health care plan.  Forty-two percent don't want it.  I mean that's a striking number, even 42% of the uninsured don't want his plan, and he doesn't have a plan.  It's not all that complicated what he's doing.  Now, the question is, is it going to work?  Well, the Public Policy Polling people out of North Carolina have another post today just now, I saw it, that Democrats are continuing to lose independents across the board on policy after policy after policy.  So something's gotta give at some point.  But they still seem to be locked onto this notion that all we gotta do is put Obama out there and magic happens, doesn't matter what he says, it just matters where he is and how often.

Sick: U.S. May Be Hiding Zelaya

I've never thought I'd see the day where the U.S. Government would be openly supporting and assisting a dictator in waiting. Now I know what the lefties are gonna say: "What about Pinochet? What about Somoza?" Fair enough, if you want to just push aside the whole fighting the Cold War aspect. Of course, we were the bad guys in Cold War, right? Sorry, I keep forgetting that. Anyway, so just to make sure I understand what's going on here: It was wrong and evil of us to back Pinochet and Somoza, but it's right and just for us to support Zelaya who tried to subvert democracy in Honduras and was deposed by democratic means?

Anyone that wants to enlighten me, feel free, and do so with the knowledge that if I disagree with you, you will NOT be banned from my website.

Banned By Little Green Footballs

Okay, I admit it, I was doing a little experiment. I was keeping track of the blog war between Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs and Robert Stacy McCain (among many others). I wrote a post about how he seems to have changed since the days of exposing the journalistic malpractice of Dan Rather much the way Andrew Sullivan has moved to the Left. Yes, people change, but Johnson seemed to be become very petty and vindictive with anyone that crossed him...at least that's what I was reading. So I wrote this post with my assessment of the situation to see if it would get any notice. Robert Stacy McCain picked it up and a lot of hits followed. Then I went over to LGF, logged in and made a comment on a thread about Rush Limbaugh calling for segregated buses. Having heard the Limbaugh segment, I made the comment "uh, he was kidding." Not more than a few minutes later, the hammer came down:

And with that, my account was deleted.

His comment about promoting my blog is all the more laughable. In the Blogosphere, I'm next to nothing. Not to put myself down, but I get a couple dozen hits a day. I'm the smallest of small potatoes. To be this petty with someone like me proves pretty much everything that's been said about Johnson in the past year. There's something wrong there...something very wrong. And FYI Mr. Johnson, I believe in evolution too.

Sad, really. I just looked back and found over 30 posts I've done where I either link to or praise Little Green Footballs, but now due to some sort of mental demons that haunt the website's proprietor, this time has come to pass.

And with that, I will now "piss off" back to obscurity.

NFL Faces A Crisis Of Identity

As we move into the second week of the NFL season, Ed Driscoll unearthed this classic video from The Onion:

Obama: ACORN? What's That?

In another example of the his belief that the American public is nothing but idiots, President Obama tried to tell us this morning that not only has he not been following the recent ACORN corruption stories that closely, he wasn't even aware they were receiving a bunch of federal money. Geesh.

How The Blogosphere Became Professional Wrestling

Strange place, the Blogosphere. The very term was coined by libertarian blogger Bill Quick who blogs at Daily Pundit. How right he was, for the Blogosphere has developed its own ecosystem.

When I first started reading blogs about 5 or 6 years ago, I started with Andrew Sullivan, who at the time was giving the New York Times a lot of trouble over the direction the Old Grey Lady had been taken by Howell Raines. The plagarism scandal along with Raines use of the paper for his own ideological purposes was exposed by Sully and eventually led to Raines downfall. Wow! The power of one blog!

Not long after you had Little Green Footballs take a major role in exposing Dan Rather's use of fake documents to try and ruin the reelections chances of George W. Bush. Again, these simple little blogs, doing the work the MSM refused to do, were making a difference.

But something funny happened on the road to journalism's redemption. Andrew Sullivan, a homosexual, became enamored with the issue of gay marriage. Can't blame him, it's an issue that's very important to him. He also was disgusted with what he saw as torture by American forces in Iraq and Club Gitmo. Again, fair enough, but these two issues seemed to lead Sullivan to a full blown conversion from conservative to liberal. Before you could say "Hope and Change" Sullivan was ready to have Barack Obama's babies (were that possible).

Then we move to Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs. Fresh off his smackdown of Dan Rather, he was the go-to blog for anti-Jihad news. But then he got a bug up his ass...Creationism. Look, I don't like creationism either. I'm a Republican, but I think it's nonsense. However, if you pose the question, what should kids be taught in school, creationism or evolution, my answer is simple: both. They're two schools of thought and kids should be aware of both and then make up their own minds about it in college after they've experiences their fair share of benders. This along with a new-found fear of European Naziism, led Charles Johnson to start declaring war on anyone he felt fit into these two catogories. It's gotten to the point that if he has proof that you laughed at the Nazi characters in Hogan's Heroes, you were banned from the comments section. Charles has now broken ties with Hot Air, Michelle Malkin, Robert Stacy McCain, Power Line and even the site he helped co-found, Pajamas Media. Then, just the other night, one of his site managers went to the comments section of Hot Air...said a bunch of racial stuff that wasn't immediately removed (Ed and Allah were in bed), and thus accused the site of allowing racist comments.

Let's be clear: Sullivan and Johnson can have whatever beliefs they choose. They're free to go from right to left and everywhere in between to their heart's desire. What is so strange is that the very actions they used to condemn are now their modus operandi.

What happened here? What led these two bloggers of some renown to make such a big ideological switch and then declare war on their former allies? Not knowing either man, I'll certainly never know, but it reminds me of pro-wrestling where one of the good guys turns on his mates and then there's a showdown at Wrestlemania, etc., etc.

Is the Blogosphere being run by Vince McMahon?

Chris Wallace Slams White House

So sayeth Vice President Joe Biden. In fact, Iran is so NOT a threat, that President Obama has decided we don't need a missile defense shield for Poland and the Czech Republic.

Hey, if Putin's happy, I'm happy.

Henry Gibson Dies

On of the more funny, if not that well known, comedians of the 1970s has died. Henry Gibson was probably best know for his time on the variety show "Laugh-In" where he would tell poems while holding a huge flower. My favorite being, "Whatcha doin', Marshall McLuhan?" He also had the very memorable role as the head of the Illinois Nazis in the "Blues Brothers." So long.

Welcome To Obama's America

Joe Wilson Censured By U.S. House Of Representatives

However, the Republican votes for and the Democrat votes against are far more interesting, via Hot Air:
Even though the vote was largely partisan, there were a few departures from party loyalty. Seven Republicans voted to rebuke Wilson: Rep. Joseph Cao of Louisiana, Joanne Emerson of Missouri, Jeff Flake of Arizona, Walter Jones of North Carolina, Tom Petri of Wisconsin, Dana Rohrabacher of California and fellow South Carolinian Bob Inglis.

But 12 Democrats voted no on the resolution: Michael Arcuri of New York, Bill Delahunt of Massachusetts, Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, Maurice Hinchey of New York, Paul Hodes of New Hampshire, Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, Dan Maffei of New York, Eric Massa of New York, James McDermott of Washington, Gwen Moore of Wisconsin, Gene Taylor of Mississippi and Harry Teague of Arizona.

Kucinich and McDermott are pedal to the metal liberals. McDermott even went to Iraq to side with Saddam Hussein a few years ago. I suspect these two guys in their heart of hearts kinda respect any form of subversion. At least they're consistent.

Well, whoop-dee-sh*t. Can we move on now?

Breitbart's Heroes Strike Again!

Andrew Breitbart and his band of citizen journalists have struck again...this time in San Bernadino, California:

Charlie Gibson And The End Of Journalism

How many times on this blog have I declared that Journalism is dead? A couple hundred maybe?

Consider this Exhibit A, now and forever. Via Michelle Malkin, ABC News anchor Charlie Gibson talks to radio hosts Don and Roma on WLS about ACORN:
Don: Okay, here’s my news question. A Senate bill yesterday passes, cutting off funds to this group called ACORN. Now, we got that bill passed and we have the embarrassing video of ACORN staffers giving tax advice on how to set up a brothel with 13-year-old hookers. It has everything you could want – corruption and sleazy action at tax-funded organizations and it’s got government ties. But nobody’s covering that story. Why?

Gibson: HAHAHAHAHA. HEHEHE. I didn’t even know about it. Um. So, you’ve got me at a loss. I don’t know. Uh. Uh. But my goodness, if it’s got everything including sleaziness in it, we should talk about it this morning.

Roma: This is the American way!

Gibson: Or maybe this is just one you leave to the cables.

Roma: Well, I think this is a huge issue because there’s so much funding that goes into this organization…

Gibson: I know we’ve done some stories about ACORN before, but this one I don’t know about…

Roma: Jake Tapper did some blogging on it. I know he’s blogged at least once on this scandal.

Gibson: You guys are uh really up on the website.

You really don't know whether to laugh or cry. Lately, I'm more inclined to cry.

MORE: FYI, I don't believe that he didn't know. He's playing games.

Success Breeds Anger

There's been a lot of talk about Michael Jordan's Hall of Fame induction speech this past weekend. I'm not an NBA fan so I don't have strong feelings about Jordan, but I watched the speech and while there are arguments on both sides as to how to take it, for me it just drives home how so many sports stars, celebrities and politicians seem to get more and more angry the more successful they are. I don't mean to pile on the Obamas, but Barack and Michelle just seem like angry people to me despite the fact they've both lived such charmed lives for the most part. Michelle's statement during the campaign that this is mean country and she's only proud of it now that Barack is president was stunning. Meanwhile, Jordan is the greatest basketball player that every lived, yet there was an anger there for all that doubted him. Maybe he was just being snarky, something I'm often guilty of, but take it from me...there's always an element of truth to any snide remark. Marshall McLuhan said that every joke is a grievance...Groucho Marx made this an art form.

I guess the lesson is that revenge isn't the key to happiness. Food for thought.

NFL Season Begins

It's only the first week of the NFL season and already there are more story lines than you shake a stick at. It just astounds me how engaging pro football has become and I really think a lot of it has to do with the salary cap and revenue sharing. Let's hope and pray that the league doesn't kill the golden goose and turn into Major League Baseball where only four or five teams matter.

Kanye West: Posterboy For Our Celebrity Culture

News tonight that rapper Kanye West, who we're often told is the greatest musical genius of his generation and so on and so forth, made a complete ass of himself yet again at an awards show. You can read the details here if you're so inclined.

I just hate the fact that I'm now old enough to say things like "this generation has no respect" or "I just don't get popular music these days." Nevertheless, that day has arrived for me. Granted, it's the same in every generation...my father, I'm told, wasn't too crazy about the Beatles' hair cuts when they invaded America, but it just boggles my mind that someone like Kanye West is a hero to so many when he's nothing but school in summertime (i.e. no class).

You Don't Have A Constitutional Right To Free Speech

You are born with it. Derek Hunter over at Big Government explains how we often make the mistake of claiming we have a right to free speech granted by the Constitution.

Andrew Breitbart On A Mission

There's an article over at Mediaite by Robert Quigley that opines Andrew Breitbart may be the conservatives' Arianna Huffington. Quigley's article is a bit snarky and unwittingly shows what is wrong with journalism today. Case in point:

And boy, does Breitbart know how to promote: he went on Fox News this morning to discuss his “exclusive” (and happened to mention his website a decent handful of times during the interview), and he got his video placed as the top story on Foxnews.com, ahead of arguably bigger stories like Joe Wilson’s outburst during Obama’s healthcare speech last night.

Um, the defense rest. When a verbal skermish in the Congress is considered a bigger story than corruption in a community activists organization tied to the President of the United States, you can see how the MSM has languished. And what's with "exclusive" in quotes. Did MSNBC report this story? Oh, that's right, they have yet to even mention it.

As for Breitbart, he is doing an amazing job, and unlike Huffington who merely goes to whatever side of the political spectrum offers the most adulation, Breitbart has the courage of his convictions. Some may argue with that. Fair enough. But biased journalism is not just what is reported but what is not reported. Fox News, Breitbart, Hot Air, et al may have a conservative bent, but show me what they're leaving out.

White House Agrees To Close Nonexistent Loophole

Joe "You Lie" Wilson is so completely vindicated I hereby dub him the Captain of the S.S. Vindication:
The White House tonight is providing the below clarification on what the president's health-care proposals would mean when it comes to the issue of illegal immigrants.

The question, as we all know, arises from the Wilson "You lie" outburst, and the core claim that notwithstanding specific bill language barring illegal immigrants from participating in the "exchange," as a practical matter, there is no way of verifying the citizenship of applicants -- which is the current state of play.

Republicans say that then means illegal immigrants would end up being enrolled in plans -- bill language or no bill language.

Today, for the first time as far as we know, the administration is backing a provision that would require proof of citizenship before someone could enroll in a plan selected on the exchange.

White House Buckles To North Korea

ABC reports (Hat tip: Drudge) that the White House has abandoned six party talks with North Korea and is willing to meet one-on-one.

Now, many of Obama's fans will tell us that this is just part of delicate negotiations and it's ridiculous for guys like me to immediately start up with the "buckling" talk. To them I pose this question: If it's not a cave, why release the news late on a Friday?

CNN Panics Viewers, All Three

More idiocy from the "open sewer" that is the Internet mainstream media.

John Stossel Joining Fox News

In a move that makes so much logical sense it hurts, libertarian journalist John Stossel is leaving ABC and joining Fox News.

While I'm glad to see it, it also gives a clear picture of the state of the MSM today. I'm no historian, but I think you could argue that we haven't seen the American media this politically concentrated since the early days of George Washington's presidency, when Alexander Hamilton controlled the Federalist newspapers and Thomas Jefferson controlled the opposition newspapers. Fox News is now nearly 100% libertarian/conservative while MSNBCCNNNBCCBSABC are near 100% liberal/statist. Is this good or bad? Despite the answer to that question, we can say at least that the news networks are more honest about where they are coming from. The pretense of "objectivity" is dead.

Flashback: Bush Booed

Via Mere Rhetoric:

Obama Heckled By GOP Congressman

Time for some serious loin girding folks. Tonight during his umpteens speech on health care before a joint session of Congress, South Carolina Republican Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!" after the President's claim that illegal immigrants will not be covered by Obamacare.

A sh*t-storm is fast approaching.

Tomorrow will be a non-stop debate over what has happened. Calls for Wilson's resignation will blanket the airwaves and pages of the state-run media for dissent is no longer considered patriotic.

UPDATE: Wilson apologizes, but he'll still get plenty of death threats. Meanwhile, when is the President going to apologize for lying?

New Quote Of The Day

"One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks."
- Tom Friedman

Tom Friedman: Authoritarian

No more pretense.

Quote Of The Day

Via Camille Paglia (Hat tip: American Thinker)

But affluent middle-class Democrats now seem to be complacently servile toward authority and automatically believe everything party leaders tell them. Why? Is it because the new professional class is a glossy product of generically institutionalized learning? Independent thought and logical analysis of argument are no longer taught. Elite education in the U.S. has become a frenetic assembly line of competitive college application to schools where ideological brainwashing is so pandemic that it's invisible. The top schools, from the Ivy League on down, promote "critical thinking," which sounds good but is in fact just a style of rote regurgitation of hackneyed approved terms ("racism, sexism, homophobia") when confronted with any social issue. The Democratic brain has been marinating so long in those clich├ęs that it's positively pickled.

Soda Tax? Now I'm Angry

The New York Daily News reports that Obama would be open to a soda tax to help pay for health care.

Gov. Paterson's proposal to tax soda in New York fizzled, but President Obama believes it may be time to pop a similar sin tax on the nation.

The President, in an interview with Men's Health magazine released yesterday, said he thought taxing soda and other sugary drinks is worth putting on the table as Congress debates health care reform.

"It's an idea that we should be exploring," the president said. "There's no doubt that our kids drink way too much soda. And every study that's been done about obesity shows that there is as high a correlation between increased soda consumption and obesity as just about anything else."

Obama is floating the idea seven months after a storm of protest forced poll-challenged Gov. Paterson to drop his plans for an 18% tax on soda and other sugary drinks.

This will not stand!

Glenn Beck: Don't Congratulate Me For Van Jones

Glenn Beck is going to have one hell of a week:

In case your only source of news is ABC, CBS, NBC and/or The New York Times or, as the White House was hoping, you were out doing things with your family this long weekend and didn't check the news (which was released after midnight Sunday so it wouldn't be in any papers) the green jobs "czar," special adviser to the president, Van Jones has resigned.

But here's The One Thing: My phone, e-mail and Twitter were hammered all weekend with people offering congratulations. First, let me say I'm not the one to congratulate. I can go on and on about this stuff, but if you don't care and it doesn't connect with the American people, what I say doesn't matter.

Another OCD Episode

That's right folks, it's a holiday...and smart readers of the LP know that when I have too much time on my hands (or when I'm trying to avoid working on my Master's Thesis), I get in this OCD mode where I have to change my blog template. This started by accident actually, when I mistakenly replaced the template on my real blog rather than my backup/test blog. So, I was screwed, and after a few attempts, I decided to go total minimalist. Lets just say I got the lion's share of the recessive genes in my family. Stay tuned.

Study: Obama Taking America Down Third-World Road

Via Stop The ACLU:

Adam Smith once commented that “there is a great deal of ruin in a nation”. He meant that bungling governments imposed only a limited check on the economic performance of a Great Nation.

As Nathanael Smith and I show in our study of US economic contractions, Adam Smith would be much less sanguine were he confronted by today’s financial crisis and the US government’s response. Indeed, it is not impossible that the US will experience the kind of economic collapse from first- to third-world status experienced by Argentina under the national socialist governance of Juan Peron.

The US economy suffers from a growing culture of indebtedness that has increasingly contaminated the federal government since 2001 and has spilled over dramatically into private household behaviour. The combination of the ill-conceived fiscal-furnace fired by President Bush and the US Congress and the reckless monetary-furnace fired by Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke throughout the period 2001-2007, created unsustainable housing market and stock market bubbles whose collapse brought on the financial crisis and economic contraction of 2008-2009.

In The Dead Of Night, Van Jones Resigns

In what should come as no surprise, Van Jones has resigned his from his throne as one of the dozens of Obama administration Czars. Even less surprising is the fact that he did it late Saturday night on a holiday weekend. The MSM/State-Run Media hasn't covered the story and now is forced to. Van Jones is of course calling his downfall a smear campaign, which is by definition telling the truth about Democrats (see Swiftboating).

As the gang at Hot Air point out, the big problem here is not that Obama put a hard-core Marxist in his administration but his desire to circumvent checks-and-balances and appoint all kinds of "Czars" without Senate approval. That's not republican government, not even close.

Folks, it just gets worse by the day. Unemployment is now at 9.7%, the worst since 1983; one of the Czars is a Truther; the administration is still harrassing Honduras for protecting its democracy; and now, Joe Biden thinks he's the President of the United States.

The vice president, borrowing Mr. Obama's teleprompter for a speech before a friendly audience at the Brookings Institution, said "I" more than a dozen times as he pointed repeatedly to progress on the economy and to his lofty role in the process.

"Every week -- with notable exceptions -- I hold a Cabinet meeting. And most of the Cabinet secretaries attend," he told the audience in Washington.

"I made it clear that our focus had to be, in the first 100 days, accountability, transparency and responsiveness. I wanted each of those Cabinet secretaries to set up systems where they would have a high degree of confidence that as they implemented what they were in charge of, it would be done effectively and efficiently."

In a presidential-like declaration, Mr. Biden said the buck stops with him. "I take responsibility for mistakes that were made," he said at one point.

This administration is looking more and more like the Oakland Raiders with each passing day. "Just win baby!" may not be a good enough rallying cry for this dumpster fire.

Van Jones Saga Heats Up

I never could have predicted that President Obama would be under 50% in the polls a mere 8 months into his first term, but the Van Jones saga is something I very much would have expected.

The resume that this fellow has racked up (made public, thanks mostly to Glenn Beck) is astounding. Not only is Jones a proud communist, he is a 9/11 Truther.

Now, that Barack Obama likes and employs him isn't too surprising. After all, one of his boys from the neighborhood is 60's terrorist Bill Ayers. But this shows just how Obama and his state-run media have changed the political culture, and why so many are rebelling. There's no way Bill Clinton would have got away with having someone like Van Jones in his cabinet. Granted he had plenty of socialists, but they were much more discrete. Remember Lani Guinier? Clinton's nominee for Assistant Attorney General? She was so radical that even Ted Kennedy told Clinton to send her packing. We're now at a point where our President is appointing dozens of "Czars" with views more radical than the average person can imagine.

So what now?

No Need For Investigation Into California Wildfires

I now what caused them: radical environmentalism.

Will Obamacare Cover Cannibalism?

A legitimate question given recent events.

Why Your Coach Votes Republican

The Wall Street Journal has a story looking at the political affiliations of football coaches. Naturally, Tom Osborne gets some ink: (Hat tip: NewsBusters)

Tom Osborne, who coached the Nebraska Cornhuskers for 25 seasons before serving three terms in Congress as a Republican, suggested that football coaches probably look at their own lives and careers as testaments to the conservative principle of self-reliance.

"There's an awful lot of people who want to be in coaching for the number of jobs," he said. "It's highly competitive. And many of them have had to spend a fair amount of time as graduate assistants, interns—as much as four, five, six, seven, eight years—making very, very little money to get into the profession. And they will work 70, 80, 90 hours a week during the season.

"I think that background—adherence to discipline, sometimes sacrifice, loyalty to core values—those things tend to have people move in that direction."

Best part of the article, however:

Ralph Friedgen, the portly University of Maryland coach, good-naturedly called one of his Canadian players a socialist last fall.

White House Blocks Scotland From Releasing Communication Details

Transparency? Not any more:

The Scottish government told FOX News Tuesday that the U.S. government refuses to allow them to release details of any communication between Scotland and the U.S. over al-Megrahi’s release.

A source with the Scottish government, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the demand was made in a letter sent Tuesday from U.S. Embassy Chief of Mission Richard LeBaron.

The U.K. and Scottish governments are making public their correspondence on al-Megrahi’s release; Prime Minister Gordon Brown insists his government played no part in the decision to let the murderer return to Libya.

Next Target: Free Speech

Lee Cary over at the American Thinker has a chilling prediction of what's next from Team Obama.

While the Cap & Trade Bill ricochets around inside the Senate, Rahm, Reid and Pelosi will launch a full-scale assault against the frontline opposition to the fundamental transformation of America that Obama promised as the election approached last November. Namely, against leading radio talk show hosts and some FOX News television personalities. It will, of course, all be done in the name of civility, fairness and diversity. Media reform is good for America, its proponents will claim.

While building the fiction of a new atmosphere of bipartisan cooperation, there'll be a coordinated effort to throttle back the impact that Limbaugh, Beck, Levin, Hannity, Ingraham and other leading conservative media pundits have had on the healthcare debate. It's inevitable. Why? Because, "The new ruler must determine all the injuries that he will need to inflict. He must inflict them once and for all." (Machiavelli)

Ted Kennedy's Legacy

Yes, Ted Kennedy is gone and it's time to move on, but I think we need one more look at one of his biggest crimes...collusion with the Soviets. Power Line has the story.

Kennedy's message was simple. He proposed an unabashed quid pro quo. Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election. "The only real potential threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations," the memorandum stated. "These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign."
